Over the last decade, carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions caused global warming, brought great harm to the ecological environment and had a serious impact on human social production, consumption and life. To face the challenge of global climate change, we must cut off the link between economic growth and greenhouse gas emissions, and built a low-carbon economic development model, that is, the way of " production and consumption high energy consumption, high pollution and high emissions," should gradually be placed by the way of " low energy consumption, low pollution, low emissions ", making low-carbon factors gradually penetrated into all aspects of production and consumption. Chinese manufacturing industry is the main production industry, having made a great contribution to economic growth. But it also uses a lot of fossil energy and emits a lot of greenhouse gases. Thus in the global low-carbon development context, it’s severely constrained by human resources, energy and "Green Trade Barrier", and urgently needs to improve industrial competitiveness. Low-carbon economy provides opportunities and challenges, so manufacturing must transit to a low-carbon development model, and low-carbon technological progress is the fundamental driving force of its transformation. By studying the impact of low-carbon technological advances on manufacturing industrial competitiveness, we can suggest rational proposals and countermeasures to enhance the competitiveness of manufacturing industry.The paper studies the effects of low-carbon technology innovation on manufacturing industry competitiveness with theoretical and empirical methods. First of all, discusses the concepts and theories of low-carbon technological advances and manufacturing industry competitiveness, laying the foundation for in-depth analysis of the relationship between the two; secondly, understanding the status of low-carbon technologies and manufacturing industry competitiveness, it analyzes the effects of the low-carbon technological progress on manufacturing competitiveness including cost, size, market, growth, investment and innovation competitiveness; thirdly, through DEA- Malmquist index estimates low-carbon technologies progress, with RCA and CA indexes measure the competitiveness of manufacturing industry,and econometric models were constructed with panel data to verify the correctness of the theory. Empirical results show that low-carbon technological progress can improve the competitiveness of manufacturing industry; finally, on the basis of theoretical and empirical research, to make reasonable suggestions to improve Chinese manufacturing industrial competitiveness.
