An Empirical Study On The Influencing Factors Of Academic Database User Satisfaction

The construction of academic database in our country is changing from the "resource construction as the center" to "user-centric". User satisfaction is getting more and more attention, and even can be said that it’s the key for database enterprise to win in the market competition. Therefore, it has important significance to study the user satisfaction of academic database.This paper will build a user satisfaction model of academic database by combine the relevant theories and existing research. Then, under the guidance of the model, combined with relevant academic research, the paper makes user interface, system function, operating stability, website speed, resource update speed, amount of resources, product training, after-sales service as the eight factors which influence the user satisfaction of academic database, and proposes the hypothesis that all the eight factors have positive impact on user satisfaction. Next, the study conducts a user satisfaction questionnaire investigation on the academic database platform of WF company, and analyses the 9519 valid survey data acquired eventually by statistical methods to test the hypothesis. Finally, in order to help the development of database enterprises and the industry, the paper puts forward some related suggestions according to the analysis results and discussion.The research result of this paper is that all the eight factors have positive effects of different degree on the user satisfaction of academic database, of which resource update speed has the greatest influence on the user satisfaction, followed by operating stability and website speed, then the amount of resources, product training and after-sales service, and finally system function and user interface. By discussing the result, I believe it’s the resources lagging problem widely exists in the database industry and it’s more difficult to improve and has lower effectiveness compared with other factors, that makes the resource update speed became the factor which affect the user satisfaction most. In addition, combining with the two-factor theory, I think that user interface and system function belong to the "hygiene factors". Although the two factors has the least influence on the user satisfaction, but they still play an important role to the user satisfaction, which cannot be ignored. At the end, this paper suggests that database enterprises should adopt relevant measures from different influencing factors to improve the user satisfaction by combining with their own situation.
