| In 2007 the Central Economic Work Conference, it is proposed to “guide enterprises to establish modern management concepts and effectively assume corporate social responsibility.â€,Corporate social responsibility has been raised to a strategic position. However, China’s textile and garment industry is still unable to fulfill its social responsibility, which is mainly reflected in the following aspects: their understanding about social responsibility is not prominent, the management of responsibility is poor, and the government do not pay much attention to it. And this is mainly due to the inherent power to fulfill our social responsibility capability is not strong, and the external power is imperfect. China is in a crucial stage of reform and opening up, during the process of economic development, the emergence problems of environmental destruction and ethical issues, and the fulfillment of social responsibility receives much Government and the public attention. How to actively perform their social responsibility under the premise of market responsibility, which is undoubtedly a major challenge for China’s textile and garment industry, a population-intensive and resource-intensive industry. So it is very important to research how to improve the ability to fulfill social responsibility of our textile and garment listed companies.By analyzing the characteristics of China’s textile and garment industry as well as contemporary China’s macro background, and by referencing the triple bottom line theory, stakeholder theory and the responsibility level theory, this paper sums up the social responsibility connotation of China’s textile and apparel industry. And, based on this connotation, the guidelines or indicators of social reporting system of textile andapparel industry, and the quantitative analysis of China’s textile and apparel listed corporates’ social responsibility performance, this paper clarifies the situation of social responsibility performance of China’s textile and garment industry, and further sums up the weakness and the reasons why China’s textile and clothing listed corporates fail to undertake their social responsibility, and thus propose-s possible measures to enhance their ability to fulfill their social responsibility in the New Era, including the establishment of internal control and external optimization mechanism on the basis of perfecting social responsibility connotation, and this mechanism is a collaborative trinity mechanism by uniting the efforts of "business-government- society". |
