Intense industry competition, more differentiated custom demand and more rapid response speed make the mass production mode not satisfy custom demand. Mass customization gains the auto manufacturing companies’attention with the low production cost and rapid response speed. Postponement strategy is the core of mass customization. It can not only improve the flexibility of production system but also organize mass customization production with the lowest cost according to product delivery and customization requirement. And the CODP positioning is the critical issues of postponement strategy. The generalized and customized manufacturing stages can by accurate CODP positioning will give full play to their strengths, increase the market competitiveness and improve the degree of customers’satisfaction.On the basis of existing research results about MC, the paper studies the CODP positioning issues based on postponement strategy. Firstly, the paper selects the type of postponement strategy of auto manufacturing company and analyses the CODP positioning influence factors. On the basis of the above, the paper builds CODP positioning model of auto manufacturing company in MC and analyses the cost of process re-mould, the unit production cost of generalized stage and customized stage and the unit semi-finished inventory cost with CODP change. Then the paper extends the semi-finished inventory by taking into account the production time. Secondly, the paper studies the positioning point range by introducing the delivery function, determined the total cost function by using curve simulation and the change trend of total cost function, alternate positioning point by MATLAB simulation software. And the solving approach of CODP positioning model is given by combining the constraints. Finally, the paper calculates CODP optimal positioning point of manufacturing stage and verifies the rationality and validity of CODP positioning model and solution approach in MC by combining the practical auto company case.The paper studies the CODP positioning issues from cost, delivery and customization requirements, proposed the solution approach to location model and verifies the feasibility of the location model and solution approach. The paper’s research provides the auto manufacturers with the basis and guidance on postponement strategy and CODP positioning.
