The Research Of Fuzhou Running Water Enterprise In The 20th Century

This thesis focuses on the Fuzhou’s running water enterprise in the 20th century. Based on the archives, newspapers, relevant literature and previous research achievements, the paper try to restore the arduous process of Fuzhou’s running water enterprise, and explore the link between tap water and the changes of Fuzhou’s city life through the study of tap water’s origin, development and effects, in order to provide lessons for the present public utilities. Until the tap water was built, Fuzhou urban residents’ water is mainly river, and wells. Following the development of the cities and enhancement of the sanitation concept, the running water enterprise was on the agenda. From starting to build in 18 years (1929) to formally completed in 1956, nearly 30 years it was built on and off, then, with the development of national economy, it has grown and eventually formed as a perfect water supply system. The emergence of tap water in Fuzhou has played a vital role in disease control and prevention, advance in fire control, and the improvement of the urban health. Researching on Fuzhou’s running water can help people understand the faltering of the construction and guide people to set up the consciousness of water saving and cherishing, at the same time, it can provide lessons for the present city construction of Fuzhou.
