Research On The Employment Effect Of Foreign Trade Development In China’ Swestern Region

China’s foreign trade developed rapidly after the Reform and Opening, and it has become one of the main driving force of China’s economic growth. The implementation of the western development strategy since 2000 made foreign trade of the western region keeping a rapid development of foreign trade growth rate, which is higher than the China’s foreign trade growth rate. At the end of 2013, 12 provinces of the western had about 366 million people, and among them there are 210 million people employed. The first industry employment took nearly 100 million people, accounting for nearly half of the total employment numbers. Facing with the rapid development of foreign trade and the duality problems of employment among urban-rural daul structure in the western region, it is important of making a research of affect of the development of the western region of China’s foreign trade on employment, especially in the role played by the trade structure of the labor force.From the growth and structure and other aspects of foreign trade and employment status in China’s west region, this article describes its development of foreign trade and employment status. Then on the basis this article concludes problems of foreign trade development and employment in the western region, and analyzes the impact of foreign trade development in western China on employment mainly through empirical research. The results shows: development of the western region’s export trade and economic growth is conducive to enhancing employment levels, while imports and employment in the western region was negatively correlated; the western region’s export of primary products exists within the squeeze effect, and its development can reduce employment; western region’s industrial manufactured exports can promote employment, while imports inhibit employment. For the development of foreign trade and promotion and structure optimization of employment in China’s western region, the article puts forward the countermeasures and suggestions. First, develop export trade actively. Second, undertake industrial transfer actively. Third, promote the transformation and upgrading of foreign trade. Fourth, correct recognizing the role of imports. Fifth, participate in the economic zone of the Silk Road actively.
