The research was about the analysis of performance and reform in the banking sector in Niger. The s objectives of the research were; to identify the nature of Niger’s banking industry, to evaluate the performance of the sector after the reform program and, to evaluate understand how the sector is performing as compared to other countries under the same regulatory framework.The variables that were formed the key findings in the study included; Ownership structure of banks in Niger, Non-Performing loans, Lending rates in Niger, Capital adequacy, Growth in credit, Banking Sector regulation, Sectorial distribution of Bank credit, Distribution of bank assets, and Macro-economic environment. The findings revealed although the banking sector in Niger is still small, it is stable, growing and has a promising future.A number of recommendations were made and the included; diversification of the economy, increase lending to productive sectors, to reduce on the lending rates and prioritization of the microfinance institutions development. Others included increasing domestic ownership in banks and lobbying the regional regulator of the sector to refocus sector regulation from focusing on inflation control to also spur economic activities.
