Empirical Study The Relationship Between The Number Of Patents And Regional Economic Growth

Nowadays, innovation has become an indispensible component in promoting regional economic growth. With the help of high technology, the economic of each country goes through an incredible increase. After joined the World Trade Organization(WTO), China government gradually realized the importance of the construction of intellectual property. Each state of governments deployed different ways to promote and protect their patent career development. However, there still exist some unknown areas for scholars to figure out. For example, what’s the character does patent act as in the growth of economic? Or how much does the patent contribute to the economic growth of Dalian City? Or at present, which kinds of patent contribute most to the economic growth in Dalian? And what’s the situation of patent development does Dalian in among the same type city? Therefore, in this paper we will figure out these questions and find some ways to keep the economic increasing in a sustainable way.To solve above questions, we collected and analyzed many papers about the relationship between the number of patent and economic growth. Using Dobb-Douglas economic growth model as foundation to analyze the relationship between economic growth and patent. What’s more, we use literature review, empirical analysis, statistic analysis and questionnaires to evaluate Dalian patent development. The conclusions are following:To begin with, the number of grant patent has positive effect on the economic growth. Specifically grant utility patent make the most contribution to the regional economic. However grant invent patent shows it’s advantage in promoting economic growth.Furthermore, grant patent has positive effect on the Dalian economic growth. The grants invent patent makes great contribution to the Dalian GDP growth following by the grant utility patent. And grant design patent has nothing to do with economic growth in Dalian.In addition, Dalian has strong research ability in transportation, petrochemical and equipment manufacturing industry area. Some technologies are already out of date. It is very urgent for Dalian enterprises to update their skills to catch up other rivals.To the end, from the result of the comparison, we found out that no matter in the aspect of patent creation or management, Dalian fall far behind domestic advanced city.
