Land resources is the most important material for human-kind’s existence and production. Land resources is the necessary vector for social production and business activities. And is an important part of social and economic development in cities. Because of China’s large population basis, fundamental realities in China, which was the relative scarcity of land resources, decided that the contradiction between the protection of land resources and rapid economic growth is becoming more and more difficult. In recent years, the pace of economic growth and urbanization is accelerating in China. In order to meet the needs of urban development and to solve the problem of the rising number of urban population, the scale of urban land expanded gradually. So the problem of urban land scarcity is becoming more prominent day by day. Therefore, we should make a correct understanding of issue which is between economic growth and urban land, and also properly handle the relationship between them. It is directly related to the sustainable development for urban economy, which has importantly realistic significance. Therefore, in the context of contradiction and problem of urban land use, which is becoming increasingly prominent. The paper studied the relationship between urban land and economic growth from the perspectives of consumption and supply and demand. Based on the theoretical basis and theoretical analysis, firstly, from the perspective of urban land consumption, the paper used σ convergence and β convergence model to verify the convergence between urban land consumption and economic growth. Secondly to some extent, the results showed that the fitting relationship between urban land consumption and economic growth was basically in line with Kuznets curve. On this basis, the paper made the further study on weather the relationship between urban land and economic growth was fitting Kuznets curve or not. Finally, according to the results of empirical study, the paper revealed the inherent regularity between urban land and economic growth. The results showed that, from the perspective of urban land consumption, the study confirmed that the urban land consumption intensity gradually decreased in the whole country in the last ten years, showing the characteristics of convergence. And the narrowed gap of urban land consumption intensity of different provinces in the relatively developed area was smaller than that in the whole country and the less developed area. The results of empirical study basically conformed to theoretical analysis. At the same time, from the supply and demand of urban land perspective, the fitting relationship between scarcity degree of urban land and economic growth was basically in line with Kuznets curve.
