In recent years, intermediary business of the commercial banks has become an important development direction and contest focus in commercial banking business due to its inherent low-cost, low-risk, and highly profitable advantages. At the moment, intermediary business innovation acceleration is not only the external needs to cope with the fierce competition of business in commercial banks but also the inherent requirements of commercial banks development. In order to grab more market share for commercial banks, the banks have to adjust their strategies, aggrandize the investment and strength of research for new products with a variety of marketing tools. As one of the three pillar businesses in Western Commercial Banks around the world, however, the commercial banks intermediary business is still in its infancy of its development level with many problems in China. Therefore, this article attempts to find how to improve the profit level of intermediary business for commercial banks after retrospecting its history of development, analyzing the internal and external environment and identifying the problems appeared in its operation by inference and analysis.This paper gives points from the following five parts:Chapter1, index, which talks mainly about the background, purpose, significance and methods of the research. Then it puts forward the ideas and research framework based on the related studies both domestic and abroad. Chapter2discusses from four parts-summary of intermediary business; the relative theories of intermediary business in commercial banks from the financial innovation and the intermediate business plan point of view; significance and risks of developing intermediary business; the predictions of further trends through the retrospect on the development of intermediary business in commercial banks. Chapter3is the comparison and analysis of intermediary business of domestic and foreign commercial banks from the multiple perspectives. Finally, summarize the inspiration of the comparison. Chapter4analyzes the current condition of the commercial banks, including the bank income, bank charges, human resources and the supervision in intermediary business. Chapter5points out the existing problems of in domestic commercial banks on the basis of the analysis above and the specific case about M bank Z branch. Then it refers to the opportunities and challenges of developing intermediary business in domestic commercial banks, and researches the major adverse factors faced by domestic commercial banks in developing intermediary business as well. Chapter6comes to the conclusions, the advice and the research prospect. The conclusion of this paper is that intermediary business is becoming the competition focus of commercial banks with its particular predominance, in spite of uneven level and many problems in China. On the one hand, China’s commercial banks are developing intermediary business vigorously, and have got some successful experiences. On the other hand, the risk prevention system of intermediary business is not mature enough. The risks become more and more obvious with the development of financial derivatives. To solve it, we must strengthen risk control through all the links of the work. Therefore, recommendations are made from two aspects of cultivating market condition, promoting the development level. Finally, it prospects the future development of the intermediary business in domestic commercial banks.
