The Study Of The Relationship Between Firm’s Technological Innovation Input And Innovation Performance: The Moderating Role Of Institutional Environment

Innovation is the source of improving the level of performance, achieving andmaintaining long-term competitive advantage for firms. Innovation has become thefocus of strategic management research, which studies the relationship betweentechnological innovation input and innovation performance attracted the attention ofmany scholars. Some studies suggest that technological innovation inputs havesignificant positive impact on innovation performance, while some studies suggest nosignificance. One reason of these inconsistent conclusions is that constraints andfactors influencing the relationship have not been fully taken into account.In this paper, the author examine the relationship between technologicalinnovation input and innovation performance in depth. Meanwhile, based on China’snational conditions, the paper discuss the impact of institutional environment on therelationship between technological innovation input and innovation performance.Specifically, the following are main issues: the impacts of three dimensions oftechnological innovation inputs (internal R&D investment, technological purchaseinvestment and cooperative R&D investment) on innovation performance; theimpacts of three dimensions of the institutional environment (regulatory environment,normative environment, cognitive environmental) on the relationship betweentechnological innovation input and innovation performance.In this study,for the above problems,the author use theoretical and empiricalanalyses methods together to discuss these questions. Firstly, it build a theoreticalmodel by way of reviewing the relevant domestic and international theory and sort outthe internal logic of the relationship between technology innovation input,institutional environment and innovation performance, particularly in-depth analysisof the logical relationship between technological innovation input and innovation performance. Above all the study analyzes how the institutional environmentinfluence the relationship between the two variables as a moderator. Thus, a logicalframework for technical innovation input, innovation performance and institutionalenvironment relationships is built.Secondly, this study use questionnaire survey method to collect relevant data. Inthe collection process, my tutor give me intensive guidance. The sample includes Jilin,Shandong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Guangdong, Chengdu and Tianjin, covering thecountry’s major regions and the main types are high-tech enterprises. Among therespondents who completed the questionnaire, most of them are middle managementstaff, so the data collected can be a good empirical support for this study.There are295valid questionnaires, and these295companies have better representation.Thirdly, this study use data processing software to analyze data in order to testthe theoretical framework of the model and assumptions. After extensive and effectivedata collection, this paper use statistical analysis software spss19.0for relevantempirical analysis of the theoretical model and the text of the various assumptions. Atlast, this research concludes following:(1)All three dimensions (internal R&D investment, technological purchaseinvestment and cooperative R&D investment) have significant positive impacts oninnovation performance.(2)the effect of technological innovation input on innovation performance ismore significant under better institutional environment(regulative environment,normative environment, cognitive environment)In summary, on the basis of previous studies, this paper make two possiblecontributions. Firstly, it introduce institutional environment as the moderator toexamine its impact on the relationship between technological innovation input andinnovation performance. Secondly, this paper make effort to further explore therelationship between technological innovation input and innovation performance.
