This paper discusses overwork based on performance appraisal. In the first partdescribes the background and the significance and the concepts of the overwork. Theauthor redefines the concept of overwork after summarizing others’ research. Inaddition, the author summarizes the development course of the domestic research andthe characteristics of each period. However, the past research didn’t talk aboutoverwork in the aspect of performance appraisal.Then, in the use of available data, the paper proves the performance appraisalcan cause overwork. With different performance concept, performance appraisaltarget, employee appraisal reaction, the paper gets a conclusion: The essential reasonof overwork is the problems of performance appraisal and bad human resourcemanagement.And the paper analyzes the origin and essence of overwork, and describes therelationship between performance appraisal and production behavior from two aspectsof positive and negative. In the same time, the author points out the existingemotional reaction and production behavior caused in performance evaluation ofoverwork. Finally, based on the above theory results, the author constructs theformation mechanism model of performance assessment on the role of overwork.Finally, the author puts forward some methods from the perspective of performanceappraisal to reduce overwork.
