In recent years, with the deepening of economic globalization and China’s support for entrepreneurial activity, the number of new ventures has a rapid growth. However, contrast with the vigorous development of the new ventures, little enterprises survives finally. Due to the complicated and changeable environment, combined with the short creation time and insufficient strength, it’s hard for new ventures to succeed among the fierce market competition only rely on their own resources accumulation. In order to develop, new enterprises begin to focus on the external to get the resources needed for the growth of enterprises, such as market knowledge, business management experience and technical skills by utilizing the enterprise external network. In view of this, many scholars tried to use the social network theory to explain the entrepreneurial performance differences among enterprises. The specific mechanism between social networks and start-up venture performance remains to be further discussed and studied.Based on the background, this study will build up a research model which is composed of enterprise external network, knowledge acquisition and entrepreneurial performance. This research looks the enterprises founded within five years as the research object, and tries to further explore the mediation effect of knowledge acquisition and the concrete process of the social network and business performance.Firstly, this study proposes and constructs the theoretical model of the external social network, knowledge acquisition and entrepreneurial performance on the basis of relevant studies. Then the paper puts forward the corresponding assumptions according to the relationship between the variables and the purpose of this study. At the same time, on the basis of the specific research object and research purpose of this study, the paper makes some adjustments with the previous classic scale used by scholars to make it more in line with the research content, and through the way of a questionnaire to obtain data for empirical analysis.229valid questionnaires are left after a preliminary screening with the346survey questionnaires. Then the corresponding data analysis and reliability test validity is made with the229valid questionnaires. After ensuring the reliability and validity of the data and the indicators of the fit of the research model are in line with the relevant requirements, this study does the empirical analysis through structural equation measurement to analyze the relationship among social network, knowledge acquisition and entrepreneurial performance, then verifies the medium effect of the knowledge acquisition on the relationship between social network and entrepreneurial performance. And finally summarizes the research conclusion according to the hypothesis of this study, further clarifies the important theoretical significance and practical value of this study for enriching entrepreneurship research and improving startup performance.Through empirical analysis of questionnaire data obtained in this study, the study concludes that:(a) New venture social network and entrepreneurial performance are positively correlated, and both the heterogeneity of network and relationship strength have a positive role in promoting entrepreneurial performance.(b) The hypothesis of Knowledge acquisition plays an intermediary role in the social network and entrepreneurial performance was partly established. Specifically, the mediating role of knowledge acquisition between network scale and entrepreneurial performance was not significant; Knowledge acquisition plays a mediating role in the relationship between the network heterogeneity, the network relationship intensity and entrepreneurial performance.In this thesis, we verify the theoretical model through the empirical research and make a deep analysis with the result according to the theory, and put forward a suggestion based on practice, that new venture should plan and construct their external social according to their own development direction and the situation of the ventures and make full use of external networks to obtain the critical knowledge resources to promote the development of new ventures.
