The Effect Of Employment Stability On The Urban’s Settlement Intention Of Rural Migrant Workers

Employment is vital to people’s livelihood. The rural migrant workers have been working at non-agricultural industry, their employment stability affects not only their wages, but also their life and development in cities. This study focus on their employment conditions based on7cities’surveys that implemented at summer,2013. Then we discuss the effect of employment stability on urban settlement intention, on the basis of the analysis framework which is about migrants’ settlement intention in cities of Pengfei Ye’s.We find that migrants’ employment stability mainly including two parts:the one is frequency of turnover that indicated their job conversion conditions from their first entrance into cities to now; the other is inclination of turnover that reflected their adaptability and continuation for the existing job. The result of binary logistic regression analysis certified that among the influencing factors of settlement intention, the sex, age, education, training, marriage all affect the two sides of employment stability; while other characteristics, the employment, the migration style, the dwelling conditions and the social communication etc., all affect the inclination of turnover. Then we also know that female, participating labor union, family migration, less distance, superior dwelling conditions, more often associate with the natives, all promote migrants’ urban settlement intention. The two indicators of employment stability negatively affect settlement intention remarkably, so it’s very important to promote migrants’employment stability and reduce the frequency and inclination of turnover. Meanwhile the result showed that education and training would raise the stability notably.We can draw several policy-related implications from this study. Firstly, In order to boost the employment stability, the government should put more effort to promote migrants’ education and training, improve the quality of employment service via providing better employment security policies. Secondly, both government and enterprise should devote themselves to improve migrants’dwelling conditions, including housing fund system. Finally, actions should be taken to advance the reform of employment environment and treatment, meanwhile, encourage migrants to settle in small or medium-sized cities which contributes to promote their urbanization.
