Since the reform and opening-up, our government has paid so much attention to the utilization of land resources that we achieve a lot. However, in terms of quality and quantity, China’s land resources is not so thriving, which has a close bearing on our economic development, social stability, food security and even national security. Compared with other counties, China, with a large population and relatively little land, need do more to treasure land resources. To solve current land problems, the most effective method is optimal allocation. As China’s land market is still in infancy and the mechanism is not mature, administrative and politic means play a leading role in land allocation.The current land management system, with some deficiencies, might be detrimental to optimal allocation. Consequently, appropriate improvement and adjustment are essential. What our government need to do is find a way making the most of land management system.In this paper, firstly, some relevant theories of land management and economics are briefly elaborated. Secondly, the current situation of land management system and land resources are introduced. Thirdly, problems of current land management system are analyzed on the basis of optimal allocation. Lastly, suggestions for improving the land management system are put forward.
