Challenges To Multilateral Trade System Posed By Regional Integration And China’s Coping Strategy

Along with the acceleration of the pace of economic globalization, international economic and trade relations is also in constant change and development. The Doha round negotiations has been in a tortuous dilemma over the years, to a certain extent, the multilateral trading system represented by WTO has been unable to adapt to new changes of international trade pattern, in response to financial crisis and trade protectionism, multilateral trading system is strong in will but weak in power, to a certain extent, it speeds up the economic cooperation between countries, regions, it hopes that it can quickly coordinate the interests between the parties by similar regional background and compatible political background, so regional economic integration has gradually come to the fore, it can better meet the interest demands of more countries, the voice of emerging countries is also growing, competition mechanism of survival of the fittest also makes the utilization rate resources increase. These two are parallel development relationship and it has become an irreversible trend. However, the strong vitality of the regional economic integration organizations also threaten to the multilateral trading system, the competition between each other will bring challenge to the healthy development of multilateral trading system, the multilateral trading system is in danger of being marginalized, and it even influences the development of international political and economic relations. However, China is taking a proactive stance in regional economic integration trend, adapting to the new development situation of economic globalization, promoting regional economic development and prosperity. The eighteenth congress of Chinese Communist Party explicitly proposed to accelerate implementation of the strategy of free trade zones, this is an important content of the new round China’s opening up. "One belt and one road" plan is also aim at developing regional cooperation between countries along the route, digging the potential market, insisting on open cooperation, mutual benefit and win-win progress in many fields, promoting all-round development of bilateral relations. FTA strategy will be promoted with "one belt and one road" plan, this greatly promote the two-way investment between China and countries along, it will also bring global business opportunities. So to investigate current situation of the development of China’s regional economic integration and the measures also has a certain practical significance.This paper firstly combed the main theory of regional economic integration, combined with the status quo of main regional economic integration organizations, it summarizes the development situation and characteristics of regional economic integration, the development course and status quo of multilateral trading system, and analyzes challenges to multilateral trade system posed by regional economic integration. Secondly, based on the above analyses, it analyzes the current situation of China’s participation in multilateral trading system and regional economic integration. Thirdly, this article selects the member of China-ASEAN free trade area, the United States, Japan, South Korea these fourteen countries’bilateral trade flow as the original data samples, using social network model to analyze regional economic integration and its challenging. Finally, this article proposes some relevant countermeasures combining with the existing problems in this international economic background to China, in order to let China be able to gain a foothold in the world economic trends and achieve sustainable development.
