Congo’s government under President Massamba Debat and China’s government under Mao Zedong first established their relationship in 1964.In March of 2013, Chinese president Xi-Jinping strengthened the two countries strategic cooperation during an official visitation in Brazzaville. This year of 2015 marks the 51 year anniversary of partnership between the Republic of Congo and China.China became a net oil importer in 1993. Since that time, China has gone to substantial lengths to ensure greater energy security to maintain the growth rate of its massive economy. China’s economic ascendance over the past two decades has generated ripple effects in the world economy. This endeavor has taken the Asian giant all over the world in search of energy sources, which has also led to growing ties between China and energy rich countries. This policy has necessitated stronger involvement in energy rich countries throughout Africa, such as in Nigeria, Angola and the Republic of Congo. This study was aimed at examining the impact of the strategic cooperation between Congo and China on economic and trade exchanges. This study used a comparative advantage theory where secondary data from both countries were analyzed. In this study, I also adopt an empirical analysis about trade relations with economic cooperation between Congo and China. A content analysis was used to understand the import and export volume between the countries under study. This discussion reveals that Congo and China’s economic and trade exchanges have had considerable impact in the socio-economical area, infrastructural development and have also boosted the recipient states’ gross domestic product (GDP) growth substantially.
