Life cycle assessment theory, as a kind of evaluation system in the whole lifecycle of products all input and output the effects on the environment, the method ofabroad is used to guide alternative product or program the important tool of choice. The methodological development in LCA has been strong, and LCA is broadlyapplied in practice. However, with the evolution of sustainable development, traditional life cycle assessment which considered only the environmental aspectsfaced new challenges. This article mainly analyzed the key issues at all stages of the life cycleassessment, these key issues include the problem of Attributional LCA andConsequential LCA, the functional unit, as well as the issues of system boundarydefinition in the goal and scope definition; the quality and uncertainty of the inventorydata, the allocation problem and how to select proper LCI methods in the inventoryanalysis; the selection of varies impact assessment methods as well as how to broadenand deepen the scope of life cycle assessment in the impact assessment. Through theresearch on these critical issues, this paper presents a new life cycle assessmentmethod that based on the perspective of sustainable. This approach integrates thedimensions and metrics of environment, economic and society, which broaden anddeepen the range of life cycle assessment. In addition, the paper also proposes atechnical framework and existing life cycle assessment sustainability models, andillustrates the application of sustainability assessment through a case study. The results showed:(1) the consequential LCA deepen the range of traditionalLCA, but needs further quantitative research;(2) inventory analysis have been moreperfect, yet still need to pay attention to the data quality and LCI methods;(2) weneed to note the problem of broaden and deepen the scope of LCIA;(4) life cycleassessment will develop along the direction of life cycle sustainability assessment(LCSA) in the future. It takes into account a broader dimension, more indicators, andintegrate more models. At the same time, there will also be new problems in LCSAthat need further study and discussion.
