Analysis On Environmental Accounting Information Disclosure Of Chinese Listed Companies In The Electric-power Industry

The power industry plays an important role in GDP growth as a basic industryof the national economic development. So far, the main power generation method inChina’s power enterprises is thermal power，however, both the energy consumptionand the emission of pollutants, have become serious problems for the developmentof power enterprises. According to the statistics of atmospheric pollutants publishedby the Ministry of Environmental Protection in2013, more than50%of sulfurdioxide and more than60%of nitrogen oxide come from power industry. Suchpollution situation is undoubtedly against development trend of “Green GDP”,therefore for the power enterprises, prevention and control of environmentalpollution is imperative. Power enterprise’s environmental problems can be solvednot only from the technical aspects of the development of clean energy, but alsofrom more environmental accounting information disclosure, so that the wholesociety can be supervisors. The objective and comprehensive disclosure of specificinformation on power industry environmental accounting is an important part forsustainable development of today’s economic and social environment. Based on thisbackground, this thesis will do some research on environmental accountinginformation disclosure of public companies of China’s power industry.Based on the existing environmental accounting information disclosureresearch and the implementation of environmental protection policies in China, thispaper analyzes environmental accounting information of56public companies indomestic power industry. According to publicly available data of public companies,the author investigated both form and content of environmental accountinginformation disclosure of each company manually and carried out relevant data andratio,then evaluated current situation of environmental accounting informationdisclosure comprehensively with inductive analysis, comparative analysis andempirical analysis. The analysis revealed that in spite of environmental accountinginformation disclosure of public companies in power industry is developinggradually, there are still many issues such as inadequate disclosure, incompletecontent, simple form and the lack of regulatory system, etc. Aimed at the issuesabove, this paper analyzes the internal to external causes, and based on internalfactors, it takes empirical analysis on environmental accounting informationdisclosure data of the sample. According to company size, place of registration, profitability, debt and other factors, this paper selects some indicators as explanatoryvariables, and the environmental accounting information disclosure index as theexplained variable, then set up a corresponding model for regression analysis. Theresults showed that company size, profitability, development ability and theproportion of independent directors have significant correlation with environmentalaccounting information disclosure.Finally, according to a comprehensive analysis and considering our nationalconditions and advanced experience, this paper proposes relevant policy suggestion,which include accelerate industrial upgrading of power industry and improve powercompanies’ hard power, standardize environmental accounting informationdisclosure reports and clarify disclosure duties of power enterprises, establishinternal control system to promote information disclosure from the inside to theoutside,enhance public awareness of environmental protection and requirement ofenvironment information. Through the research of environmental accountinginformation disclosure of public power companies in China’s power industry, theauthor hopes to perfect the related system,guiding information users increasing thesupervision of the enterprise environment accounting information disclosure qualityand promote the healthy development of China’s power industry.
