During Twelfth Five-Year period, along with the steady and rapid development of the national economy, the electricity demand has been continued to grow, at the same time, the performance and operation of grid companies have been improved a lot. The power industry has entered a rapid development period, with power generation capacity increasing by nearly500million kW and the total electricity consumption increasing by nearly2trillion kWh. After the China’s power market reform, the market competition has been introduced into both the demand side and supply side, power enterprises are facing with more complex external environment and greater competitive pressures, and the problems about management system and operation mechanism fail to meet the rapid development requirements of the grid. In order to achieve the significant development of China’s power grid enterprises, benchmarking management of power enterprises has become one of the most useful management tools.As a practice-oriented and process-oriented dynamic management, benchmarking management requires the power enterprises to learn from the excellent companies in the same field to find the gaps. According to the successful experience of the excellent companies, improvement measures in accordance with the actual situation of power enterprises should be developed and implemented in order to enhance their market competitiveness and management standard. With the accelerated pace of world economic integration, China’s power grid enterprises will face not only domestic competition, but also the prominent international competition. In order to shorten the gap between power enterprises in China and western power enterprises, the vigorous promotion of benchmarking management is of practical significance in improving the comprehensive competitiveness of enterprises.In this paper, firstly, status research of benchmarking management of China’s power grid enterprises will be carried out through the analysis of current situation and the basic framework, besides, the present problems of benchmarking management of grid enterprises will be derived. Secondly, for the existing problems in the benchmarking management combined with the "one strong and three excellencies" development strategy of national grid company, the new benchmarking indicator systems will be built from the following aspects:grid development, asset quality, supply services, results of operations. Thirdly, researches on the data mining algorithms of benchmarking management will focus on the applications of combination of gravitational search and K-means algorithm in the benchmarking management. Besides, the validity and feasibility of this algorithm will be verified through the practice of power enterprises. At last, the evaluation method based on the results of benchmarking management will be introduced to provide decisive support for the operation and development of power enterprises.
