A Study On The Tourism Development Of Resource-exhausted Cities

Since the1980s, resource-based cities in our country have been into a state of mineraldepletion and city decline in succession, the economy need to revive. With the rapiddevelopment of modern service industry, the development of tourism plays a special rolein promoting the sustainable development of urban economy. In addition, combined withthe nature of tourism industry, tourism turned to be one viable choice of alternativeindustries for resource-exhausted cities.In this paper, firstly, the writer systematically reviewed and summarized experienceof tourism development in resource-exhausted cities at home and abroad, then put forwardspecific guidance for resource-exhausted cities’ tourism development in China. Secondly,comprehensively expounded the geographical and traffic location, social economy andthe present situation of tourism development. With tourism input and output data from2008to2012, using DEA model to calculate the tourism investment efficiency of Huaibeicity for five years nearly. On this basis, combined with market demand, the author holdthat it should reposition on the basis of the original tourism development. And then todemonstrate the feasibility of tourism development for huaibei city, the writer discussedfrom following aspects: the special role of tourism industry to resource-exhausted cities,local characteristic tourism resources, policy support from state and local government andthe analysis of tourism competitiveness based on analytic hierarchy process (AHP). It isconcluded that the tourism development potential of huaibei city is tremendous. Lastly,through the analysis and evaluation of tourism resources, integrated and reconstructed thetourism resources of Huaibei city. Combining with the reality(red-tourism resources,historical tourism resources, industrial heritage tourism resources) and distinctive tourismresources of collapse lake, Wetland. Keeping up with the current trend of nostalgic andreturning to nature. It put forward some ideas of tourism development for Huaibei city:three thematic tourism(nostalgic cultural tourism, wetland leisure tourism, modernagriculture sightseeing tourism), innovation of tourism marketing mode and so on.
