International Trade: Feasibility And Opportunity For Thailand Cotton-textile And Apparel Sector

The purpose of this research was to provide a comprehensive analysis of international tradein order to evaluate and determine the challenges it poses, and opportunities, it offers toThailand’s Cotton, Textile and Apparel Sector. The research is based on secondary data sources.World Bank, WTO,ASEAN and a lot of other valuable and authentic reports from the authorsof repute have been consulted to understand the increasingly complex international traderelations in a globalizing world. Volumes of government reports, position papers, handouts andbooks have been searched to appreciate the dynamics of Thailand Cotton, Textile and ApparelSector.The research thesis endeavors to capture where the opportunity is? Who are the players? Whatare the opportunities in the international market place? How to make good opportunities amonghigh competitor in international market? How to get low price of raw material? How isfeasibility in the future market? Brief account of recent trade development and the relationshipbetween global and domestic trading arrangements have been discussed. Role of politics inshaping decisions and managing power both at domestic and global level, significance ofinternational commitments, and influence of historical, cultural back grounds, shared ideas andbeliefs, and individual mind set in competing interests in the domestic economy have also beendilated upon.Analytical findings reveal that Thailand has comparative edge on the basis of comparativeAdvantage. The estimated value of revealed comparative advantage of cotton in Thailand whichis very high than unity which implies that Thailand has great opportunities in the export of cottonand cotton manufacturing.
