Gansu province as one of the most underdeveloped provinces across the country,in recent years, as more and more agricultural labor force to non-agriculturalindustries, social, job and security pressure become heavier, and rural empty nestproblems intensified, farmers income gap enlargement is one of the important causeof this situation.Through comparative analysis, this paper starts from the household incomestructure and the extent of its change, compares the change per capitain the nationalincome structure with that in Gansu, and longitudinally and transversely compares thechanges in various items of income growth in Gansu with that in China as well asother provinces. Through the contrast, this paper finds that wage income as the mainaspects of farmers’ income growth in Gansu, becomes the main driving force incatching the national average, and that lack of management capacity of farmers dragsdown overall growth of farmers’ income. In addition to actively expanding farmers’transfer of employment in Gansu to increase income, improving management capacityof farmers should also be given adequate attention. From the perspective of changesin household income structure, the structure of the national income among differentincome groups of farmers yearly convergence. From the perspective of the valuechanges in household income structure, the degree of change in household income inGansu is higher than that of the national average, indicating that the farmers in Gansubegan to participate more actively in economic activities. But the low changes inincome structure of low-income households and their risk of being marginalized bysocio-economic development are worth noting.Using380farmer households sample data in10counties of Gansu in2012toanalyse the income gap affecting factors by nonparametric regression analysis, it hasbeen found that the population and labor structure, allocation of labor force and highquality cultivated land ownership are the main aspects of peasant household incomegap. As a whole the education level of labor force of farmers is not significantly affected for income. We take the point that improving the capacity of farmers’ income, paying attention to agricultural development and increasing the investment on ruralagricultural development are the keys to narrow gap in income.
