In order to achieve the goal that people can communicate with anyone at anytime, anywhere, mobile communication technology has developed rapidly in these years, the terrestrial and satellite mobile communication systems are the most representative ones. However, due to these two systems’ inherent defect, it is difficult to to achieve the goal rely on only one of them. Therefore, the satellite-terrestrial communication system was proposed, which combines the satellite and terrestrial communication system. Digital Video Broadcasting-Satellite services to Handhelds(DVB-SH) system is an example for successful application for the satellite-terrestrial communication system. However, due to satellite communications have to rely on line of sight link, it is necessary to introduce a relay node to achieve high-quality communication service. But the two-way relay satellite-terrestrial communication system has inherent characters make it difficult to achieve. Therefore, it is necessary to design efficient communication proposals to improve the system throughput and reduce the error rate. This paper analyzes the background and the significance of the application for two-way relaying technologies in the satellite-terrestrial communication system. It also analyzes the current development and future research directions of the satellite-terrestrial communication system. Then, we study the frame of the satellite-terrestrial communication system, and build model of two-way relay communication system and the satellite channel model based on multi-state Markov link. According to the characteristics of the satellite-terrestrial communication system, this paper analyzes four kinds of asymmetric channel. In order to solve the problems of the satellite-terrestrial two-way relay communication system, such as high channel loss, asymmetric uplink and downlink channel conditions and asymmetric transmission data volume, three communication protocols combining Multiple-Input Multiple-Output(MIMO) technology and network coding are proposed.Firstly, in order to solve the large channel loss problem in satellite-terrestrial communication system, a proposal combining Network Coding(NC) with MIMO is proposed. We establish MIMO-NC protocol model and analyze its BER simulation performance based on symmetric and asymmetric channel channel models. Because of the poor error performance of MIMO-NC protocol model under asymmetric channel, the proposal combing Combined Orthogonal Physical-layer Network Coding(COPNC) with MIMO is proposed. This paper establishes MIMO-COPNC protocol and analyzes its BER simulation performance based on symmetric and asymmetric channel models. In order to meet the high synchronization requirements of COPNC and asymmetric transmission needs, this paper establishes the protocol combining MIMO with Complex Field Network Coding. We establish MIMO-CFNC protocol and analyze its BER performance based on symmetric and asymmetric channel models. In this paper, three effective protocols are proposed to improve the communication performance of the satellite-terrestrial two-way rely communication system.
