As a new field of science and technology, digital image processing technology has been developed from the theoretical level to practical application. The demand of market application, make people demand more in the result of image processing technology,prompting more and more researchers to participate in this technology. But, the way of image acquisition always accompanied by all kinds of noise, interference and other factors.At the same time, image processing relying on software will have the disadvantage of real-time and high efficiency. Obviously, ‘huge’ computer system has also brought great inconvenience to the image processing. However, all those problems have found new solve ways with the development of integrated circuit and semiconductor technology. Making all these pcocess transfer to the hardware system can make up the disadvantage for the lack of computer software in dealling with the image, show its ‘small and fast’ characteristic.Image enhancement prepare for the digital image processing technology, it’s a very important part of this filed. This article will research image enhancement algorithm combined with FPGA, which will make outstanding contributions for the following up research work such as target recognition, tracking and so on.First, this article introduces the concept of image and the development of image processing technology, analyses some common methods of image enhancement, explain the effect of them. Then explain the image processing through two basic common examples, and test the result of the algorithms through Matlab. Next, this article design a video image acquisition system based on FPGA. Explain each module of the system, and combining the Modelsim software to simulate the function of each module. Finally, using this image acquisition system to test whether the image enhancement algorithm applied to the FPGA image acquisition system right or not. At the same time, contrast the results of software and hardware processing. The comparison results show that the image processing technology based on hardware platform not only can reach the processing effect of software processing, but also faster than the software for many times.
