The end-to-end packet loss rate is the basic measure of network performance. Because it is affected by various factors, such as the scale of network and application behavior, the measurement and estimation of loss characteristics have been the most challenging and the most difficult parameter of network performance to measure. From the measured data angle, the calculation of packet loss rate measurement was studied by the measured IP Trace data of passive measurement method. Based on one-way complete TCP flows, the systematical calculation and analysis of packet loss rate related measure were undertaken for all of the IP Trace data in IPTAS system acquired in the boundary of JSERNET, which is more than 1000 hours long, reserves of more than 46T, and spans nearly 10 years.First, the development status of Internet measurement was introduced, and network performance measurement, especially the measurement of packet loss rate were summarized and analyzed, the research objectives and the main content of this paper were put forward. Then the definitions of packet loss rate, retransmission rate and reorder rate were studied and described, and through the study of the relevant features of the TCP protocol and the relationship of packet loss, one-way complete TCP flow was as the analysis object and the relevant measure of packet loss rate need to measure was determined, that was the first loss rate, the whole loss rate, the machine loss rate, the retransmission rate and reorder rate.On the basic of determining the calculation method of the relevant measure of packet loss rate, first of all, the measurement object of complete TCP flows from the measured data was finished. Then based on the support of IPCIS which is an IP location library, the algorithm design and implementation of the relevant measure for packet loss rate were completed from the aspects of whole and partition. And the relevant measure of packet loss rate of all of the measured IP Trace data in IPTAS were calculated in out or in direction and total or 5min time granularity.Finally, from aspects of time and location, the relevant measure of packet loss rate change was analyzed and the conclusion that network traffic and network distance have a direct effect on the packet loss rate was put forward. Then the work that comparing the results of two existing packet loss estimation model based on flow records with the packet loss rate measurement calculation methods in this paper was finished, the advantages and disadvantages and different results of estimation model and statistical method of this paper were given.
