Wireless communications have experienced exponential development in the last few years. With the dawn of Long Term Evolution(LTE), it moved forward in a pace never seen before. Long Term Evolution- Advanced(LTE-A) has provided solutions to a number of difficulties faced by LTE, and faces an ever greater responsibility to fulfill the requirements of the modern day communications of very high speed data rate, better quality and greater throughput.(LTE-A) has introduced several key features such as Relays, Carrier Aggregation, Multiple Input Multiple Output(MIMO) to enable a better and more efficient wireless communication system.This thesis intends to investigate Relays, the Decode and Forward(DF) protocol of relays and provide a more advanced scheme named Enhanced Decode and Forward(E-DF).Concept of cooperative relays will be used to assist in obtaining a better DF protocol. The motto of E-DF scheme will be to improve diversity and higher data rate. Semi-analytical and simulation methods are used to evaluate symbol error rate(SER) performance and other information-theoretic measures when utilizing the proposed Enhanced-Decode and Forward.
