Bulk carrier, is one of the main business of the port, at present our country draft bulk trading general rule is draft survey assessment by personnel. As a result of water quality, season, weather, and the influence of such factors as waves, increased staff labor intensity and draft recognition difficulty, it is very difficulty to guarantee precision accuracy, is also difficult to guarantee the owner procurement, terminal, the three parties satisfactory results at the same time. Therefore, a kind of objective test system that to realize automatic waterline detection becomes a problem to be solved.In this paper, based on machine vision technology, as a portable and as stable as the basic principle, design a set of ship waterline detection device, this set of device hardware system including industrial camera, camera, mobile power supply and three-dimensional pan-and-tilt, etc, this article make detailed introduction to the selection of hardware.This paper also proposes a detection algorithm for ship waterline based on machine vision, the algorithm first uses the template matching and image morphological processing for registration of the entire draft video, classified on the basis of image registration according to seawater physical phenomena in the video were designed the algorithm of water transparency, when the water is transparent using the global information of the image, using the edge detection and Hoff line detection judge video waterline; when the water opaque, using local color features determine the main colors from the detected color region of nine in space, and then through the horizontal projection of the single image to determine the waterline.
