Passive radar has many advantages, such as excellent capability of anti-interference and favorable concealment and survival ability, because of its different location of receiver and transmitter. It has become an important research field of modern radar. The entire performance of passive radar depends on its key performances of different modules, so it has important significance to do research on testing and validation methods of key performances in passive radar.Firstly, this paper introduces the basic working principle of passive radar and some algorithms such as digital beam forming(DBF), clutter suppression algorithm and methods of target compensation. Then it puts forward the difficulty of testing key performances in terms of a passive radar system. Secondly, this paper discusses the influence of channel disaccord on DBF and proposes the method of measuring channel compensation coefficient and testing DBF performance with practical data. Then, the testing method of clutter suppression by simulating digital signals is proposed. The clutter suppression test results under simulation and practical circumstance are presented as well. At last, this paper discusses some practical factors in experiment and the methods of testing target detection performance by taking advantage of reflector and airliners.
