With the development of modern technology, The traditional radar with low resolution and unipolar can’t provide more accurate information. The combination of high resolution and target polarization information provides more choices for the development of radar. This paper introduces the polarization related basic knowledge, adopts digital method realizing the time-division polarization radar. The system can change emission and receive polarization at any time. The radar use stepped- frequency wave to achieve high resolution range profile. This paper proposes a polarization calibration based on the combination of active and passive method; In view of the recent emergence of compact polarization techniques, we analyze its theory and simulation verification.In order to measure target polarization characteristics, Paper uses DBF(digital beam forming), compensate the multi-channel amplitude and phase in the IF stage, combined with multi-channel Variable polarized antenna, we synthesis various polarizations in space, thus achieve arbitrary polarization instantaneous receives and transmits. For obtaining target range detail features, the paper uses stepped frequency waveform to achieve the goal of a one-dimensional high resolution range profile, and we analyze its principles and target extraction Algorithm.Aiming to reduce polarization measurement errors exist in polarization measurements, we propose a combination of active and passive calibration methods. Proven, this calibration method can improve the target polarization scattering matrix Accuracy.Time-division polarimetric radar can not measure PSM of moving target. And the dual-polarization radar is still widely applied, thus this paper studied the compact polarization technique. By emission single polarization, dual-polarization reception mode, using Souyris and Nord reconstruction model, we can get its full polarimetric information.
