Surface plasmon polaritons(SPPs) is excited by the interaction of light wave and free electrons in metals. It has the property of energy localization and can break the diffraction limit. SPPs has broad application prospects in photonic devices, high resolution optical imaging, nano lithography and so on.Based on the theory of SPPs, several optical filters and a kind of new wavelength demultiplexer is proposed. The main works are as follows:1. Introduce the theory of SPPs excitation by Attenuated Total Reflectance(ATR) method.Research the excitation effect by different parameters. Based on the result, a band-stop filter is proposed and numerically simulated. The filter is simply composed by a thin layer of metal film and two layers of dielectric medium.2. Research the EM field mode in Metal-Insulator-Metal(MIM) waveguide. Then the rectangle resonance cavity filter based on MIM waveguide is analysed. Through numerical simulation, the influence of structure’s parameter is discussed. Finally, two kinds of new optical filter structure are proposed and numerically simulated. One is two rectangle resonance cavities been put on the different side of the insulator, the other is two rectangle resonance cavities been put on the same side of the insulator. They can realize the function of filter out particular Wavelength.3. Propose a new structure of wavelength demultiplexer based on MIM waveguide.
