The field is the most basic physical of describing the electromagnetic field, thus electric field measurements have a wide range of applications and significance in many fields.In recent years, the rapid development of optical fiber, optical technology more and more attention has been paid, based on the principle of optical electric field sensor has been rapid development.optical-based Pockels effect electric field sensor measurement systems has a small size,high accuracy, good sensitivity, dynamic range big, fast response, high bandwidth and many other advantages, to overcome the disadvantage that huge volume of conventional active coil probes, they tend to drift and large electromagnetic interference, has wide application prospect and research value.This paper describes the definition of Pockels electro-optic effect, determined in accordance with the sensor performance requirements for electro-optic crystal BGO crystal as the electro-optical material.Deduced mathematical expressions of BGO crystal electro-optic effect, including horizontal and vertical modulation modulation.Introduces the general structure of the optical electric field sensor, mainly divided into horizontal and vertical modulation modulation.these two structures also took two type of stransmissive and reflective.according to their strengths and weaknesses. selectively transmits transverse electric field sensor as we mainly research and design objects.Introduces the working principle of the optical electric field sensor.a detailed analysis of the course of their work application in mathematical methods.According to the mathematical model yields a basic guideline to follow the design of the optical electric field sensor. In accordance with its basic guidelines, improving sensor sensitivity, stability and accuracy of merisuremcnt starting with solidwork designed the optical structure of the sensor.In order to obtain the best sensor sensitivity and stability, the composition of the optical electric field sensor electro-optical crystal needed, polarizers, wave plates, fiber collimator and other optical elements were analyzed according to the theoretical and simulation to select the right combination of optical elements, improve the stability and accuracy of the sensor.The design of the optical electric field sensor is applied needle discharge test, by detecting changes in electric field discharge instantly needle between the electrodes, needle electrodes can detect the discharge voltage, in good agreement with the theoretical experiment, further indicating that the sensor has applications prospect.
