Body size of sheep is an important parameter for evaluating the sheep’s growth status, production performance and genetic characteristics, and how to achieve it in non-stress way is an important issue in the sheep breeding.. The method based on imaging processing can measure sheep’s body size accurately, quickly, and non-contactually.A system of 3D synchronization imaging for sheep conformation was designed based on machine vision technique, which mainly includes the designing of complete mechanical device,the movement simulation of automatic door mechanism, as well as the designing of the hardware of control system and the programming of the software. The design of the mechanical device is the basis of image acquisition, in which the camera bracket has general adaptability, realized the image collection in both binocular and monocular lens. PLC and MCGS configuration were used to set up a sheep measurement platform, which is based on the binocular vision. PLC was used to control the action of automatic doors switch by getting the RFID ear tag signal and communicating with MCGS configuration, realized the door open and close automatically. The, upper computer automatically identify the sheep’s identity,, collect the image information and the body parameters, and storage the data. Based on this, a prototype was built and the measurement was performed. The results show that the designed system of 3D synchronization imaging for sheep’s conformation has realized the automatic measurement of sheep’s conformation with stress-free and non-contact, and the collected information can meet the image processing and the requirements of sheep’s body size measurement.
