The main task of this thesis is to study the real-time precise positioning algorithm for Vehicular Ad-hoc Network (VANET) based on MIMO platform. Considering that Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) positioning program cannot provide sufficient positioning accuracy, the thesis presents a joint estimation algorithm for path loss exponent and distance by using frequency diversity, Doppler Effect and received signal strength (RSS). Firstly the algorithm model is built and derived. The effect of frequency uncertainty on the algorithm due to the Doppler shift and clock skew is analyzed. The simulation model is established and the correctness of the algorithm is validated. The impact of speed on the location error is analyzed. Furthermore, the hardware and software experimental platform is established by using MIMO enclosure of Sundance. The positioning experiment in low-speed movement is implemented based on the platform. Experimental results show that increasing the number of antennas can significantly improve the accuracy of positioning. The thesis is divided into five chapters as follows. Chapter 1 introduces the research background and significance of the subject, and the research status of the existing VANET technology. Chapter 2 describes the key technologies of VANET positioning, MIMO experimental platform and key technology of this system involved. Chapter 3 presents a joint estimation algorithm of path loss exponent and distance. Simulations are conducted to verify the reliability of the algorithm. Chapter 4 describes the method to build a MIMO experimental system and localization solutions, implements a MIMO-based positioning system. Chapter 5 summarizes the whole thesis and gives some perspectives of the future work.
