Visible Light Communication (VLC) is a wireless optical communication technology which is booming with the development of white LED technology. Visible Light Communication can be divided into two categories, indoor Visible Light Communication and outdoor Visible Light Communication. Compared to the wireless RF (radio frequency, RF) communication technology, Visible Light Communication technology has many advantages. It can solve the problem that the shortage of spectrum the Radio Frequency communication is facing. It also can be applied to these places that radio frequency signals can not be reached to meet the needs of people’s specific communication needs.Frequency Modulation (FM) radio technology is very mature, when it come to the world it has attract the world’s attention and has been wide application. FM radio uses high frequency electromagnetic wave to transmit the signal out, wide coverage and simple equipmen, but it also faces some problems. For example, the electromagnetic interference from other devices, the electromagnetic shielding of large buildings, limited in hospitals and aircraft and other environmental restrictions, etc.. In view of the above problems, this paper presents a solution method based on Visible Light Communication.In this paper, we mainly studied the physical properties and modulation characteristics of white LED, based which a FM broadcast on Visible Light Communication system is established, it utilizes optical carrier modulation method. This system can provide lighting and achieve FM broadcast communication at the same time. The communication link and indoor illumination distribution are analyzed in detail. An innovation of this paper is that the LED nonlinearity effects on FM broadcast signal is first put forward. We theoretical analysis the effect of LED nonlinearity on the FM broadcast signal. In contrast to other Visible Light modulation schemes available, FM broadcast on Visible Light Communication proposed in this paper can make full use of the existing FM broadcasting equipment and the advantages of visible light communication, to overcome the shortcomings of Radio Frequency such as electromagnetic interference and the use limitation, and achieve indoor communication. Based on system design and theoretical analysis, we simulate the system on computer with MATLAB. The influence of different factors on the performance of communication system is given using Signal-to-Noise ratio, and it is more suitable for transmitting wideband signals. Finally, the experimental platform indoor FM broadcast on Visible Light Communication system is built in the laboratory environment. The feasibility of the system is demonstrated through the experiment.
