Recently, with the developments of wireless communication technologies and the popularity of intelligent terminals, the demands of LBS (Location Based Service) are growing rapidly day by day. Meanwhile, location based service is developing very fast as a new Mobile-Internet Industry. Location systems which can get location information of interesting targets are necessary for location based service.Accurate location information within indoor environments can’t be obtained by outdoor location systems because signals barely can pass through the walls of buildings. As a result, more and more researches on indoor location systems arise. Corresponding to various indoor environments there are many kinds of indoor location systems with different hardware infrastructures and positioning algorithms. Several media signals based on sensor networks can apply to indoor location systems, such as ultrasonic, infrared, visible light signals and the blue-tooth, RFID (Radio Frequency Identification), UWB (Ultra - Wideband, Ultra Wideband), WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) and so on. Because of the widespread layout of WLAN devices in indoor public places, researches based on WLAN are more and more popular. Among all kinds of positioning algorithms, those based on AOA(Angle of Arrival) estimation information are important considering accuracy. However, normal antenna arrays necessary for AOA estimation are usually with large aperture and too much costs for indoor environments. Nowdays lots of researches work on possible schemes aiming at compatiblying receiving antennas of WLAN infrastructures and AOA estimation algorithms. This thesis studies possible schemes trying to reduce the aperture of existing antennas arrays of AOA estimation algorithms. Main work is inspired by BMAA (Biomimetic Antenna Arrays) with two-elements coupled networks which can increase the phase difference of outputs:Firstly, the feasibility of two-elements coupled network and the relevance between array aperture and spatial estimation is studied. Secondly, simulation of spatial spectrum algorithm under phase difference amplification is proposed, providing the probability of reducing the antenna array apertures of array signals. Finally, the implementation of coupling network based on FPGA and corresponding testing is proposed.
