Delay Tolerant Network is a kind of network with long delay, high bit error rate (BER) and intermittent connections, it can only be in a state of interruption or intermittent communication. Such as military Ad hoc network, star network, vehicle network, disaster recovery site and so on. In this limited network environment, due to the limited resources of nodes, traditional TCP/IP network can’t keep normal communication, but Delay Tolerant Network can work properly in this case. This network use the store-carry-forward scheme, there is no need to set the end-to-end links before, the nodes in the network have the ability of short distance wireless communication and the characteristics of frequent movement. It is precisely because of these characteristics, it can also forward packets even in the case of geographical nodes are scattered. In addition, in order to achieve asynchronous message to be safe, complete transmission, the Bundle layer is introduced and the message is transmitted by the store-carry-forward mechanism.Taking into account the popularity of Android devices, we have the idea of merging the two together. By programming, it implements DTN on Android devices, where DTN nodes can be self-organized and transfer bundles in a single or multiple DTN regions. The main research contents are as follows:(1) From the DTN research background, the current development situation, the application of the field, we compare the DTN with traditional TCP/IP network, and the work process of Delay Tolerant Network and two important protocols, bundle protocol and convergence layer protocol are analyzed.(2) The purpose of this study is to design a DTN application on Android platform based on the combination of Android platform and Delay Tolerant Network, data communication can be achieved by using the Android device as an intermediate node. So, we make a careful analysis about Delay Tolerant Network communication system. This paper implements the add friends, send pictures functions. In addition, in order to increase the probability of communication between nodes, also add a Bluetooth communication function, and modify the UI to make it more humane.(3) Test and verify the add friends function, send pictures function and Bluetooth communication function by experiments. First the DTN communication system which is developed in this paper is installed on the Android devices, and verifies the above functions in at least two DTN regions. The experimental results show that each DTN network regional nodes have store-carry-forward function, DTN nodes can transfer whatever it receives in one DTN region automatically to another DTN region in a relatively long lifetime and by this way it can accommodate the challenged environment.
