In this paper, observer-based deadband output feedback control approaches are developed for switched systems with external disturbance, whether it is continuous systems or discrete systems. By using an augmentation method, both the system states and the disturbance are estimated, and the controllers are constructed with the estimated states and disturbance. Then the stability and disturbance rejection analysis is performed for switched systems. It is shown that with the proposed deadband control strategy, not only is the updating frequency of the controllers significantly reduced, but also the disturbance is rejected from the output channel of the systems. Finally, the effectiveness and advantages of the proposed approaches are verified by numerical examples.Due to the existence of unknown external disturbance, it is imprecise to directly use the system states to determine the updating instants scheduler and to design the feedback controllers. To address this problem, the states and disturbance are estimated by using an extended state observer, and then these estimates are utilized to establish the updating instants scheduler and controller. Furthermore, an analysis is also made of the stability and disturbance rejection properties. It is shown that the use of the proposed deadband control strategy can lead to not only a substantial decrease in the updating frequency of the controllers but also an effective rejection of the disturbance from the system output channel. Numerical results are given to demonstrate the validity and potential of the proposed deadband control strategy.
