With the rapid development of optical communication technology,optical network has begun to develop intelligent.optical network has begun to develop intelligent.Intelligent optical network can realize wavelength assignment dynamically, improve the working efficiency effectively, and reduce the construction and operating cost of the network.ROADM is the core module of intelligent optical network.The wavelength selective switch is a subsystem of ROADM, which is a hot research topic in optical communication technology.This article first introduces the background and significance of the subject, and then introduces some of the technology to achieve wavelength selection switch, and the characteristics of them are compared.In this article, a new method of wavelength selective switch based on silicon based liquid crystal technology is introduced. The performance of LCOS chip is studied. At last,we design experiments to test and analyse TBWSS. It shows function of TBWSS in ROADM system.Based on the design and testing of various components, a TBWSS with 1 * 9 port is made. The performance of the device can be obtained by testing the device performance,the insertion loss is less than 6dB, the isolation degree is more than 25 dB, the bandwidth can be adjusted step by step is lower than 7GHz. The experimental results show that the TBWSS has the advantages of low insertion loss and flexible bandwidth. The device can be used as the key device in the ROADM system, which has important effect on the development of the optical network.
