Pattern recognition allows the computer to use some identification algorithms to assign each input value to one of a given set of classes. As one of the important branches of the field of artificial intelligence, pattern recognition is studied in many fields, including psychology, statistics, cognitive science, ethology, information science and other disciplines. The theory and technology have been successfully applied in many fields, so the research of pattern recognition is very necessary and challenging. In this paper, the first part is about the development of pattern recognition research around the world. The second part is about the main identification methods, including statistical approach of pattern recognition, structural pattern recognition, fuzzy pattern recognition, artificial neural network. The third part analyzed some methods of statistical approach of pattern recognition, such as bayesian statistical pattern recognition, linear discriminant, nonlinear discriminant, cluster analysis, etc. In the last part, according to the characteristics of the price movements of some CPI standard products, some methods of statistical pattern recognition have been chosen to identify the stable trend of price movements. The main contents of this paper include:1) Several methods of pattern recognition have been studied, including statistical pattern recognition, structural pattern recognition, fuzzy pattern recognition, artificial neural network pattern recognition. Their theories, methods and characteristics have been discussed and analyzed in detail.2) Some methods of statistical pattern recognition that are commonly used have been studied and analyzed, such as bayesian discrimination method, linear discriminant, nonlinear discriminant, cluster analysis, support vector machine. Their theories and characteristics have been discussed and analyzed in detail.3) Finally, based on discriminant function methods, the program has been implemented to identify the stationary phases in the price movement of standard products of CPI.
