With the continuous improvement of human demand for display, variety of displays has been manufactured since the 1990s. After years of development, the display have continuously developed towards the Lighter, thinner, fast response, high resolution, wide viewing angle, full-color, low-cost and easy to carry. Among these displays, OLEDs have stand out in diversified flat panel display market, because of their abilities to meet people’s needs. In order to achieve full-color display, red, green and blue light-emitting materials are essential as three primary colors. But the existing organic electroluminescent materials of blue-emission face common problems in solid color, luminescence efficiency and service lifetime, etc. These problems stand in the way of the organic light-emitting diodes to be applied to the RGB panchromatic display. Therefore, in this paper, the design, synthesis and properties of organic small molecules were investigated in order to obtain novel blue luminescent materials. The detail studies are summarized as follows:Firstly, the synthesis of tetraphenylethene compounds. In this paper, through consulting and summarizing massive related literature, we designed the target compound. After this, target compound was obtained by multi-step reactions via starting materials of diphenylmethane and 4-bromobenzophenone. Based on this, we characterize the structures of the compounds through NMR.Secondly, study on the performance of tetraphenylethene compounds. In this paper, the photophysical properties and thermal stability, electrochemical properties of the target compound were studied by UV spectra, fluorescence spectra, cyclic voltammetry and so on. In addition, we found that the compound could emit strong light-blue fluorescence in aggregation and solid state. So, this tetraphenylethene compounds could worked as emitting layer material to be used in organic electroluminescent devices. In a word, through reviewing and summrizing massive related literatures, we not only designed and synthesized the target compound, but also studied the performances of tetraphenylethene compounds systemically. In addition, we fabricated the luminescent materials into device. After this, we characterized the properties of light-emitting device. The results show that target compound is a good organic electroluminescent material and have excellent electroluminescent performance and good prospects in application. Our research provided new ideas and methods to enrich and develop of blue organic luminescent materials and device.
