Electrical Capacitance Tomography(ECT) technology, is a kind of methods that using the measured capacitances by ECT sensor to reproduce the distribution of different dielectric constant material inside the object to be measured by the image reconstruction algorithms.ECT technology has many advantages, such as its simple structure, fast response time,non-invasive, no radiation and pollution etc. For the advantages of ECT technology, it has been widely used in two-phase flow measurements of petroleum, chemical etc.The research of ECT technology can be divided into 2D and 3D, and 2D ECT technology research is the major one. As 2D ECT sensor only has one place of electrodes, the 2D ECT technology can get a profile of inside medium distribution information of the measured object.However, 3D ECT sensor has many places of electrodes, it can get more capacitances from different electrode pairs. Moreover, in image reconstruction, it can get 3D inside medium distribution information of the measured object, to make the reconstruction result more close to real. Currently, the 3D ECT technique has been widely research for this reason.In this paper, multiple physics software Comsol Multiphysics is used to build finite element models of ECT system. Using the LBP algorithm with automatic filtering threshold as the image reconstruction algorithm. In the study of the affects of different reconstruction areas on image reconstruction result, by the comprehensive comparison of visual effect and error evaluation parameters, selected a better reconstruction area as the final reconstruction area of this paper.This paper focused on the influences of isolate electrodes and rotated electrodes on the performances of 3D ECT sensor. This paper researched 3×4 structure sensors and 3×8structure sensors. Controlled the other sensor structure parameters invariant, only changed the setting of isolate electrodes and rotated electrodes. Designed four different kinds of sensors,they are the sensor without isolate electrodes and non rotate electrodes, the sensor without isolate electrodes and rotated electrodes, the sensor with isolate electrodes and non rotate electrodes, the sensor with isolate electrodes and rotated electrodes. Through the comparisons of each sensor on the various performance indicators, analysed the influences of isolate electrodes and rotated electrodes on the properties of 3D ECT sensor.This paper used Industrial Tomography Systems(ITS) M3 C ECT system in the laboratory,which has 24 channels and its excitation frequency is 1MHZ. Measured the physical sensors’ capacitances, the physical sensors are 3×4 structure without isolation electrodes and rotated electrodes, and 3×8 structure with isolation electrodes and rotated electrodes.From the two angles, empty and full normalized capacitances and reconstruction image, analysed the differences between experiment and simulation, verified the correctness of the simulation models.
