With the rapid development of China’s automobile industry, tire production also increasing year after year. For the performance advantages, radial tires gradually become the mainstream trends in the tire industry. Quality of the tires has become an important indicator of domestic manufacturers, for the impacts of both improving of people’s vehicle safety ideas and the competitive market. The cords quality is an important part of the entire quality study of the radial tires. In conclusion, the research on fault diagnosis of radial tires’cords has important implications for the tire industry and the detection profession.In this paper, the author assume the X-ray images of radial tires’fault as the subject of the study, focusing on the problem of distinction of cords and background and the problem of noise, researching on the diagnosis and procedure of the image processing, aiming at getting the edge information of the cords effectively, and finally to get the algorithms of multi-scale edge detection of wavelet transform maximum value of modulus.At first, the author study the theory of image procession, introduce a variety of noise reduction and image enhancement pretreatment, and focusing on the theory and implementation of multi-scale edge detection based on wavelet analysis. As a name of multi-scale edge detection of wavelet transform maximum value of modulus, it’s a combination of wavelet transform and fusion, multi-scale wavelet analysis, adaptive threshold extraction, and multi-scale decomposition of image. It has a distinct advantage in detection of radial tires compared with traditional edge detection. Traditional edge detection is very sensitive in noise and background problem, pseudo-edge point and edge gaps will be appear in the process of detection. The method of edge detection in this paper is able to accurately locate the edge in the case of small-scale, and also to suppress noise and background problem in the case of large-scale. Finally, after the integration of multi-scale, edge information can be get accurately.In this paper, the author program all kinds of algorithms through Matlab, and have the experiments X-ray image of fault radial tires, verity the advantages of the algorithms compared with traditional algorithms in the actual image processing, and get a reasonable image processing procedure.
