As high resolution imaging radar, the inverse synthetic aperture radar(ISAR) can provide not only the information of target’s direction and distance, but also can generate the target’s high resolution range profile(HRRP) and two-dimensional image, both of them contain the length information of the target, it enriches the information obtained by radar and can be used in navigation of ships; Automatic Identification System(AIS) is a new auxiliary navigation systems for ships, it provides the information about the ship such as identification number, length of the ship, draft of the ship and so on, it plays a significant role in ship’s navigation. However, ISAR and AIS each has its defects, so it is necessary to fuse the information from ISAR and AIS to ensure the safety of ship. The main content of this paper is as follows: First, fuse the tracks from ISAR and AIS; Second, estimate target’s length based on the ISAR HRRP and two-dimensional images, and make a better estimate reffering to the length associated with AIS information; Third, make this two algorithms into engineering project by using C++ language, and make them applied into the ISAR software system.First, this paper introduces the principle of AIS syste m, ISAR imaging for Ship Target, Range-Doppler(RD) ISAR imaging algorithms, ISAR image de-noising and other related knowledge. Moreover, the advantages and disadvantages of AIS and ISAR in navigation are analyzed, also the causes of noise and suppression methods are analyzed..Secondly, this paper analyzes the track fusion a lgorithm of ISAR and the AIS, including coordinate conversion, time unified, association determination and fusion of the related information, the simulation data and real data are used to verify the result on Matlab and VS2005 platform, and analyse the fusion results.Thirdly, this paper proposes the algorithm of estimating the length of the target based on ISAR HRRP and two-dimensional image, including image preprocessing, the algorithm of extracting the length of the target and the fusion criterion, also use simulated data and the measured data to verify the results and make the error analysis.Finally, using the C++ language on VS2005 platform, this paper actualizes the above algorithms, and make them applied to actual ISAR sofeware systems, then software engineering is introduced, including the outline design, the description of the software modules, and sofeware testing details.
