With the development of people’s living standard, single functional home furnishing could not meet people’s needs any more, which leads to the fact that more and more people look forward to designing their house themselves, thus there exists kinds of home furnishing design systems nowadays. However, those systems are complicated and most are based on text or menu in model searching, which is not user-friendly. Our system is based on sketch, which means users only need to draw pictures, and the system will show up the models according to users’ sketches. Besides, our system offers real object uploading, sketch beautification and 3D scene design, which can inspire users.Recognition and processing is a popular subject in recent years, because it makes human-computer interaction more convenient and natural, which is the main stream in the future. Our work focuses on developing a 3D home furnishing design system based on sketch, in which users first sketch the model they want to search, and the system shows up the models according to users’ sketch. After that users can pick up the models the system offers, and put them in a scene. Our system is made up of three parts: sketch beautification, model retrieval and model displaying. To help people increase their ability to draw models, the sketch beautification system standardizes the sketches of users. In this system, sketches are considered strokes, which will be the analysis of their structures and positions. In the sketch retrieval system our work first retrieves three outline drawings of the models, and uses improved Gabor-BOF model to form the features. The experiment shows that our method has a high accuracy and feasibility. Besides sketch retrieval, our system offers real object picture upload, and the system can search models based on the picture uploaded. In the model displaying system, users can choose a scene, put models in the scene and transform the models. It turns out that our system has convenient and interesting interfaces and excellent retrieval effect, which meets the need for home furnishing design.
