With the progress of science and technology,Virtual Reality grows gradually and has gotten a rang of application in a lot of fields.For example,in the field of medicine education,using Virtual Reality builds Human Body Model can help students better know the structure of every organ in the human bodys.In the military training field,building virtual battlefield in use of Virtual Reality is very convenient for simulation exercise.It is useful for improving actual combat capability. On entertainment,the development of virtual reality games can set virtual reality environment and bring better actual experience for people. Virtual sculpture system is an application of Virtual Reality in the art field.The Computer-human interaction of traditional virtual sculpture system is based on mouse and keyboard,but this interaction can not bring people better design experience.In order to better solve the problem, this paper regards the hand gesture as the new interaction medium instead of mouse and keyboard, and regards vision-based hand gesture recognition as a new style of interaction mode, which not only brings better interaction experience but also can inspire design inspiration of designers.The main research content of this paper include three aspects:(1)Proposing hand gesture segmentation method for virtual sculpture system.Only for hand gesture segmentation technology without regard to the virtual sculpture system,this paper proposes hand gesture segmentation Code Book background model combining with skin color model through analysising the advantages and disadvantages of Code Book background model and skin color model.This method can well segment hand gesture from the complex background.For the virtual sculpture system,the speed of segmentation is a must factor that is taken account,so based on the hand gesture segmentation method of Code Book background model combining with skin color model,this paper sets the background as a single color instead of complex background and hand wearing white gloves,this change can save as much as half the original time of segmentation.(2)defining 7 kind of hand gestures for virtual sculpture system.There are 2 features in the 7 kind of hand gestures of this paper : simpleness and being easy to be conducted, having the features that is easy to distinguish(only for the extracted features in this paper). Simple operability can bring designers relaxing experience of designing. Having the features that is easy to distinguish can help the virtual sculpture system to recognize what operation will be conducted and guarantee fluency in the process of designing.(3)Extracting two targeted features and designing new hand gesture recognition algorithm taking account of the characteristics of virtual sculpture system.This paper uses simple geometric features(four Hu moment features and the aspect ratio feature of exterior rectangle of hand gesture outline) as hand gesture recognition features combining with this paper’s recognition algorithm can abtain high recognition speed and high recognition ratio meeting the require of precision and rapidity.(4)Exploring how gestures’ rotating affects recognition ratio. This paper makes a test of recognition ratio, concluding that gestures’ little rotating will not decrease recognition ratio.(5)Making a simulation of virtual sculpture system through programming.
