Because of its good self-similarity and size reduction, fractal structure is now gradually being applied to the field of antenna design, and has achieved good results. This paper aims to take advantage of the fractal theory to design a RFID reader antenna used for 2.45 GHz band and a UHF RFID tag antenna.Firstly, analysis the principle components of the RFID system, discuss key issues in the design process of the tag antenna to be solved. Gives four specific fractal structures, and their characteristics are analyzed and summarized to provide a good theoretical basis for the subsequent chapters’ antenna design.Secondly, talk about the selection of dielectric substrate and feeding mode, according to the fractal structure characteristic, select a Minkowski fractal structure, starting from the square microstrip patch antenna using HFSS software simulate and analysis of the various impacts on the structure of fractal antenna performance parameters.Thirdly, put up the reader antenna design requirements and discuss knowledge to improve the antenna gain and the technology of antenna miniaturization and broad banding. Using Hfss-Matlab-Api script, build Minkowski fractal microstrip patch prototype antenna in HFSS, and according to the knowledge of optimization of antenna, the prototype antenna is optimized and analyzed; so as to achieve the design goal, complete the reader antenna design.Finally, design a passive UHF RFID electronic tag antenna, according to requirements, select a tag chip, and gives its impedance value at the operating frequency. Design a prototype tag antenna and analyze with model analysis and software simulation, by modifying its structure parameters to achieve a good tag chip impedance conjugate match to reach the required tag antenna design goals.
