Aiming at the hot issue “Smart Housing” nowadays and the limitations of the biometric access control system available on the market, this paper introduces the design and realization, including the hardware design, the software design and algorithm design, of a multi-functional intelligent access control system, in which the finger vein recognition technique and the fingerprint recognition technique play a vital role. Along with the finger vein image and the fingerprint image acquisition, processing and matching, the authentication of incoming people can be achieved. The comprehensive utilization of the uniqueness of fingerprint and the antifalsification of finger vein make the safety and security of the system to be greatly enhanced. Moreover, modules that join newly, such as body induction, voicemail, short-message alarm and visualization, can help lower the system’s energy consumption, enhance its versatility and security as well as reliability.Based on the analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of the existing biometric access control system implementations, This paper, firstly, identifies the main function of the system and the key performance indicators, such as user registration and identification, video intercom, voice mail, the body sensor, the recognition rate, the false accept rate. Secondly, select the quantity and type of electron component. Thirdly, design schematics, PCB board and Chip-driven. Finally, embed the image processing algorithms and software to complete the entire system design.The experiments and running trials also showed that the EER can reach 0.27%, while the time consumption is under 1297 ms.
