Animal-robots are robots generally refer to the use of some of animal’s skills and power supply. People achieve artificially control the movement of animals and certain behaviors through the animal’s movement or feel afferent innervation. Animal-robots can complete particular tasks that humans are inconvenient to accomplish or are not able to do. Compared with traditional robots and bio-robots,animal-robots have unparalleled advantages in terms of the energy supply and the flexibility and robustness of movement. Pigeons have sustained flying ability in three-dimension space, sensitive response, good navigation capability, and load-bearing. That’s why pigeons can be an ideal animal for the study of flying robot.In this paper, a collection and storage device for flight of pigeons outdoor was developed. Then the flight paths of homing pigeon in solo flight and team flight were recorded with the device to get the conclusion that the navigation capability has individual differences, and it is affected by the terrain. In addition, according to the early research about induce movement on pigeons, implant electrodes in the torus semicircularis(Tos) and nucleus intercollicularis(ICo) for electrical simulation-induced movement. After that, another device that can simulate pigeon by latitude and longitude of GPS was developed. This device, not as common devicewhich is limited by distance based on RF or Wireless, can preset the flying range by setting the latitude and longitude. Once outside the range, the electrical simulationwill get to pigeon, dove to induce pigeon back inside the range. Finally, developed a device that can capture the pulse signal of pigeon, and storage the scene around by CCD while pigeon flying. Furthermore, the performance of these devices were all tested by experiments, and the test results can basically meet the requirements while there is still improvement to increase, so it can provide a powerful tool for the outdoor applications of the further research of pigeon robot.
