With the booming development of wireless optical communication, laser radar, and the coupling between light and optical fiber, etc, it will encounter the problem that how to receive the spatial optical signal effectively. However, the optical signal is susceptible to the environmental factors. That can lead to the deviation of optical signal, thereby affecting the performance of whole receiving system. So how to receive the spatial optical signal is vital to system’s normal operation.In this paper, based on the present research and the developing trend about receiving technology of optical signal, a special optical taper is proposed as the optical receiver to solve the problem of beam deviation. What’s the effect of special optical taper’s parameters on the receiving performance is theoretical studied, and the coupling efficiency is experimental tested. Further, the enhancement mechanism of optical receiving is experimental probed. The major contents include:First, the research status in the world about optical receiving technology is introduced. Based on the ray-tracing theory, the optical mode of light transmitting in the special optical taper and the generatrix equation of special optical taper are researched. All of those lay a theoretical foundation for further research of optical taper’s receiving performance.Then, the parameters of special optical taper include the radius of input aperture, the radius of output aperture, the length of optical taper, and the shape of generatrix. What the effect of those parameters on optical receiving performance is theoretically analyzed.Once more, the experimental platform is erected to test the coupling efficiency of special optical taper. The generatrix shape and coupling efficiency of different special optical tapers are experimentally tested to virify the difference between the actual receiving performance and the simulation results.Finally, the enhancement mechanism of optical receiving is experimental probed. Firstly, the receiving performance is researched when the surface of input aperture is cambered. Then the receiving performance is probed when the flank of special optical taper is coated with a layer of aluminum nano-film.
